'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RVP - A Non-Starter!

Every so often, you get one of those transfer rumours come along that makes you laugh aloud and struggle to stifle the continued laughter.

This morning, browsing through the numerous news sources I stumbled upon a rumour linking the Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie with a move to Old Trafford.

Apparently the Professional Player`s Player of the Year and Football Writers Player of the Year could be contemplating a move away from Arsenal as he enters the final year of his contract.

With Arsenal entering an eighth year without a trophy, it`s inferred that Sir Alex Ferguson believes he could land the Dutch superstar if the transfer fee / salary package was right.

Like I said, I struggled to stifle the laughing because when have Arsenal ever sold anyone to us and, besides, if Van Persie ever became available I`m sure our noisy-neighbours would simply out-bid everyone else as they continue to sign anybody and everybody!

tend to agree with you regarding City offering more, but perhaps he only has to look at the declining fortunes of his former team mate Sami Nasri to see that going for the big bucks isnt always the right career move. at the time I said he should have pushed for United over City and perhaps Fergie should have tried harder, and it appears I would have perhaps been right on both counts
oxfordspur
OxfordSpur, you are right about the declining fortunes of Nasri. About your view on Nasri pushing harder for United - do you think United would have offered him a wage of 110k/ week over and above a 20 million + transfer fee? United is a club without a sugar daddy and has to live in the real world. Moreover Nasri was offered 90k quid/ week to stay at Arsenal so its not as if the wage offer on hand at the club was bad. Nasri preferred to double his wages on offer. Secondly, there is no question about Ferguson "pushing harder" for Nasri - it wouldn't have mattered because Wenger was the selling manager and he made it clear when he said "whatever happens Nasri will not be sold to Manchester United." Considering it requires AW's signature to sanction the sale of ANY player at Arsenal his preference of the destination of the sold player matters a lot.
Deltaforce
Oxfordspur - Samir nasri has had an excellent season for City thus far - he has already notched more assists in one season playing for us than he had in his entire time at Arsenal. Please stop believing the garbage that is written in the press and listen to what the fans themselves think. As it happens, Samir is currently in 3rd place in the Vital Mancity player of the year poll, just behind Silva and Aguero. But what would we know, we only watch him every week. And Redboy - what's so funny about united bidding for van Persie? You have a history of buying very good strikers for loads of money from London clubs, then watching as their sell-on value plummets, have you not?
fifthcolumnblue
Nasri notched 15 goals for Arsenal in the 2010-2011 season - a return he would need to equal or better to have an "excellent" season by his own high standards. Nasri had 18 assists during his tenure at Arsenal which is twice as many assists as he does at City. Its not to say Nasri has been unsuccessful at City - he has been quite good but to call him excellent would be an overstatement. Roberto Mancini himself said Nasri "had scope for improvement" earlier this year.
Deltaforce
Delta, Nasri plays in a less advanced position for City so to expect him to be as prolific is a bit far fetched. Yes Mancini did say he had scope for improvement, that has happened in the second half of the season, hence Nasri holding down a regular starting place.
Bluedub
Another thing Delta, Nasri's total league assists for Arsenal was seven. He must have 11 in cup comps to have 18 overall.
Bluedub
Bluedub, agree with your comment about Nasri and I'm saying almost the same thing. Nasri has been good but short of excellent. With his undoubted talent he could do better.
Deltaforce
Well Delta, we City fans most certainly regard it as money well spent, and know he's going to get even better. Slightly off topic, but I am genuinely hoping that piers Morgan will honour his bet with Samir should we win the league on Sunday.
fifthcolumnblue
remind me, being a casual visitor here, what was that bet?
merlin
Not required at our club,Midfield is our pressing issue!!!!!
Antriksh (abmtd)
He has on occasion been excellent imo, them occasions have occurred a lot more frequently lately. I'd expect him to improve further next season, with a year in a new system under his belt and he's still quite young. @Merlin, Morgan bet Nasri 10,000 ( that goes to charity ) that Arsenal would win a trophy before Nasri does at City.
Bluedub
Do you not think RVP would be a tiny step up from the utterly useless Mickey Owen and mysteriously underused Berbatov Antriksh? Becvause you'd be in a minority of 1 if you didn't.
fifthcolumnblue
Over Arsene's dead body.
Sajit
First of Piers Morgan is a (unt and most probably won't honour his own bet as thats the type of rat, I mean fan, he is. Van Persie will never come to United, if he leaves Arsenal, which I doubt will happen anyway, he will leave England all together. Plus Wenger would never let it happen. He's not really a necessity either, our strike force is fine and still has the potential in it to be even better with Welbec and Hernandez still young and developing.
TheFamousNo7
Fair enough Famous, I can't see Wenger allowing his very best player to join united! Probably wouldn't sell yet another player to us ever again. To be honest though, I'd be very surprised if united didn't bring in another striker next season, as Owen and Berbatov both look set to leave. Possibly not a marquee name, but an attacker nonetheless.
