United v City Referee Announced

United v City Referee Announced

It`s less than a week to go until what is fast being billed as the biggest Manchester derby of all time.

Already pundits are inferring it is far bigger than the FA Cup semi-final of last year and also the United v City fixture when a Dennis Law back-heel condemned us to life outside the top flight.

Between now and kick-off, on Monday evening, there are sure to be numerous articles relating to the fixture, I guess it`s only natural the tabloid press will go into overdrive.

One can only hope that what makes the tabloid press is of a reportable nature and not drivel intended to stir things up. The fixture already has the potential to become an explosive affair with so much riding on it for both sides and therefore, our first job in the build-up is to announce who the Premier League have appointed as the referee for this fixture.

The man in the middle will be Andre Marriner.

Marriner has taken charge of a Manchester derby previously with United winning 2-1 with Wayne Rooney scoring with that spectacular overhead kick.

Would it be too much to hope that lightning can strike twice?

Awfully clever of Slur Alex to get a ref in that hasn't already screwed us over this season, rather than one of his obvious favourites.
