'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Every cloud has a silver lining.

When Nemanja Vidic picked up a serious knee injury in our Champions League fixture in Basle, many feared it would seriously hamper our chances of glory this season.

Whilst accepting that we are a more formidable defensive unit with the Serbian at the heart of our defence, his absence has provided Jonny Evans with the opportunity to become a regular starter and the young Iris defender has certainly done just that.

In fact Evans has become a colossus at the heart of our defence, picking up knowledge from Rio Ferdinand and producing displays of such a magnitude that Sir Alex Ferguson reckons he has developed into,

"Arguably the best defender in the country."

Is Sir Alex right?

He usually is!

He is joking right? Evans has really stepped up this season and been fantastic for us, once upon a time I use to dread seeing his name on the team sheet whereas now I'm a lot more relaxed. However, I don't doubt that had Vidic not been injured this season we would've long won this ages ago, the only player near Vidic's standard in the league is Kompany and you've seen how they've struggled when he was injured/banned. Ultimately, the team have done very well without Vidic but to infer Jonny Evans is anywhere near his level or Kompany's, Terry's, Vermaelen's, King's standard for that matter is laughable and arguably blinkered. He still has moments where he looks lost and clueless, he still has moments of madness, he's just ironed the tendency of those moments down.
