Owen - Two More Years?

Last summer, the news that Michael Owen had been given another contract, albeit for twelve months, surprised many supporters.

Many felt that Owen, who has pent much of the previous season out of contention due to a variety of injuries, was just too injury prone to be relied upon to be a valuable squad member.

Well, in our opinion, that has turned out to be just the case. Owen has played just four games for united this season and has been out since November with a thigh strain.

However, this prolonged absence hasn`t stopped Owen from inferring, as his contract draws towards a conclusion, that he reckons he has two more years left at the top with Owen proclaiming,

"My body feels as though it can play and my mind wants to and I think I still have another two or three years left."

"Some players are struggling to get out of bed and complain about their knees or their Achilles. I never get pains like that."

"It is probably strange to hear that because people know I am injured. But joint-wise, I feel great."

"I don`t think I am going to be one of those players who is still playing at 37 or 38 though."

Would it be churlish to suggest he hasn`t got any joint pains because they`ve not had that much game time in recent years!
