The Thoughts of Ferguson (Bilbao away)

The Thoughts of Ferguson (Bilbao away)

It looks very much as if the one trophy that has eluded Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United will continue to do so.

Whatever name it`s given these days, the Europa League (UEFA Cup) dream died a death in Bilbao last night when an excellent Athletico Bilbao side outplayed united or a second time.

After the game, Sir Alex gave his thoughts on first the performance, secondly the opposition and thirdly our disastrous European season.

Firstly, the performance with Sir Alex remarking,

"I don`t think we can complain about the result. Bilbao were the better team, particularly after the break."

"In the first fifteen minutes of the second half they could have scored two or three goals."

A fair comment we think you`ll agree.

Continuing, with a few thoughts on the way we defended, Sir Alex continued,

"The disappointment for me is losing such a soft goal."

"You just cannot believe an English team can lose a goal like that."

And lastly the poor European campaign we`ve had this season, adding,

"It has been a disappointing year. I now hope Bilbao go on to win it because it`ll be testimony to all the hard work that all put in."

Now let`s put it all to bed, get away from Thursday night football and concentrate eon retaining the Premier League title.
