'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dignified in Defeat

Following yet another disappointing European result, Sir Alex Ferguson was remarkably forthright in his post match interview.

Some of it focused on the dubious goal whereby Patrice Evra`s missing boot influenced matters but the remainder praised our visitors from Spain with Sir Alex remarking,

"The referee said you can`t play without a boot but the real rule is you can but you have to go off the field so it seems a bit bizarre."

"It was unfortunate for us but Bilbao were the better team. Our keeper has made four of five terrific saves so it really Is not the worst result for us."

"Half the team were still arguing with the referee for the third and the defending was not very good."

"There`s no doubt Bilbao were the better side. They were very aggressive. Attacking and pressing."

"It`s an uphill fight for us and the question is can we win the match, which obviously I think we can. Their system caused us problems but when we went to three midfielders we got hold of the ball better."

Next week will be a challenge but I`m sure Sir Alex will be up for it.
