Crocodile Cheers!

Crocodile Cheers!

Okay, so I`ll admit I`m jealous!

Watching Arsenal almost pull off the impossible and overturn a 4-0 first leg lead against AC Milan, has left me pining for the Champions League.

We may have a Europa League fixture against Athletic Bilbao coming up but it, despite the thrilling two legged tie with Ajax, fails to excite me. Playing on a Thursday night does little to excite me.

Now matters may change if / when we get to the latter stages but, somehow I doubt it. To me it`s like sampling water when you`re used to sipping champagne.

The whole concept of the competition is wrong!

Where else in sport do you stand a chance of winning a competition you`re not in at the start of it but gate-crash it when you`re deemed to be not good enough for the main event?

Simply crazy!

So although I`ll, as usual, be cheering the lad son tomorrow night and hoping they`ll win, I can`t help but think that it`s something very much like the Europa League`s equivalent of crocodile cheers!

I've had many friends from all different fan bases telling me it does feel strange even for them to be watching us on Thursday nights on Channel 5 against Europes 2nd best sides. All the same though lets not take it for granted and really give it a go, it's a competition we haven't won and would do well to win solely because despite the competition not quite being the same standard as that in the Champions League, it's still strong competition and a trophy. Though to last in it we will need to sort out our atrocious home form in Europe.

Its not our normal yearly European venture - but I for one still think this is one tough competition and should be treated with respect, not shown disdain from any football team - I think the tide of European Footballing Superpower is drifting over that sea down to that little country called Espania :)
