'If It's Football, It's Vital'

De Gea`s Top Notch Display

Apart from one punched clearance that carried all the power of a shuttlecock, I`d say David De Gea had one of his best games in a United shirt.

Okay he conceded three goals but he didn`t really have a chance with any.

The first was a fluke, the second nobody in the world would have got near and the third took a massive deflection (off Rio Ferdinand) before flying in.

In fact, if it were not for the keeping skills of De Gea we could, quite easily, have succumbed to a late Chelsea effort that saw De Gea launch himself to turn away a free kick from Juan Mata and right at the death tipping, over the bar, a pile-driver from Gary Cahill.

After the game, Sir Alex complimented De Gea, remarking,

"It was a fantastic save right in the top corner."

"He`s played his part today, no question."

"His introduction to English football has been difficult and he`s made one or two mistakes. But I`m pleased we`ve seen the talent in the boy."

Perhaps now the snide remarks about the lad might diminish in the tabloid press.
