A Move for Cahill

One of the leading red-tops published in this country has us showing a potential interest in yet another centre-back.

Although Phil Jones joined us in the summer transfer window, our central defensive has been ripped apart through injury this season with, at times, Michael Carrick and Patrice Evra being asked to play unaccustomed roles.

But the player we`re interested in has already been linked with a move to one of our main title rivals and an approach now could prove to be a little contentious.

The player in question is none other than Gary Cahill the Bolton and England centre half.

Supposedly, Cahill and Chelsea are having problems agreeing personal terms which could open the door for United to swoop, even more so with it being reported by some quarters that Cahill would prefer to stay in the north of the country.

But, looking ahead, would the potential signing of Cahill provide problems down the line?

Vidic is our captain and many feel that Jones is set to play alongside him for years ahead. Naturally, it is a great situation to be in to have two more than decent centre-backs but with Evans also in the mix, could too many top-notch centre-backs create problems or has the situation we`ve found ourselves in this season dictated that our depth is something that needs seriously looking at?

Apparently he wants a rather large monthly wedge to join Chelsea. Might be good but what happens when Vidic returns, and Jones and Smalling mature?
