A Rooney Plea!

Last night was meant to herald the return of the prodigal son!

Having missed the defeat, at the hands of Blackburn Rovers, on New Years Eve, for being a naughty boy, Wayne Rooney was supposed to have been fired up by Sir Alex Ferguson to go out there and show that there are no hard feelings and drive United towards a 20th top flight title.

Unfortunately, it didn`t happen!

The closest Rooney got to getting on the score-sheet was when Danny Simpson cleared an effort of the line. Rooney got little or no change out of the Newcastle defence and when Sir Alex shuffled pack Rooney was pulled back to become the role of provider.

Minutes later, a crestfallen looking Wayne was hauled off as Sir Alex made a third change and looked a dejected figure sat on the bench.

Now I`ll accept that Wayne is a versatile player and that he is quite capable of playing as a provider but not to the detriment of his goal-scoring abilities.

If Wayne`s not banging them in then United, invariably, suffer as well.

Therefore, with the Manchester City FA Cup clash fast approaching would it be too much too ask Sir Alex to stick Wayne up front, let him ruffle the City defence and not waste his attributes by sticking him in a slot that others should be occupying.

Or is that too much to ask?
