'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Step Forward Our Real Number 1

Those of us who can claim elder statesmanship, or just be labelled as plain old, can recall a familiar keeping situation.

Back in the days when England possessed two great keepers in Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence nobody could decide who should play on a regular basis.

The inevitable result being that they were often rotated on a game-by-game basis.

Today, at Old Trafford, many would say we`re in a similar situation with Sir Alex Ferguson not quite sure who he should select as his first choice keeper.

Although the club paid a huge sum for David De Gea, his displays haven`t been top-notch and whenever Anders Lindegaard has come in he hasn`t let us down, even though he cost us a fraction of the price that De Gea did.

So our question to you, and one covered by our latest poll is:-

Who would be your first choice keeper - Lindegaard or De Gea?

De Gea has games where he looks the real deal and the successor to Casillas for the Spain national team and single-handedly kept us in games and ensured we ground out 3 points, then there's times where he goes Valdes on us and concedes stupid goals. Considering how young he is and the amount of pressure on him I don't think his done too bad he's just far too inconsistent at the moment, as to be expected from a youngster adjusting to a new life and culture and all the pressure in the world on him. Give him some time to bulk up, learn English and really command his box and i'm sure we will see consistent top notch performances from him. Based on form though at the moment it has to be Lindegaard, the man looks solid between the posts.

The comparison you drew there RedBoy is doing Shilton and Clemence a massive disservice.
