Any chances Manchester United secretly harboured of sneaking through the back door and back into the Champions League have been dashed.
The plan was to take advantage of the turmoil surrounding the Swiss club FC Sion and the probable expulsion of Switzerland from UEFA.
But, aware of the ramifications for Swiss football if their FA didn`t adhere to UEFA`s ruling relating to FC Sion and the acquisition of payers through the transfer system when they were barred from doing so, the Swiss FA have docked FC Dion 36 points, a penalty that will appease UEFA.
So it really is Thursday nights and Channel 5 for us!
