Square Pegs in Round Holes?

Square Pegs in Round Holes?

Have we not been down this road before, a road whereby we have an unlikely centre-back pairing?

Well it seems that history has repeated itself with United finishing the fixture against Wigan yesterday, with Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick doing a fine job.

Carrick had started in his far from preferred position but Evra was forced to change after Jonny Evans picked up a calf injury.

Speaking after the emphatic 5-0 win over Wigan, Sir Alex explained how the latest situation had arisen, remarking to the media,

"We have had a nightmare the last few days - Phil Jones came down ill, Chris Smalling was also ill. Rio called off with a back injury and Jonny came off injured at half time."

"I`m certainly hoping Jones and Smalling will recover from illness that will make a difference."

It should but I`m sure we have enough ammunition to see off the challenge Blackburn Rovers will present in our next game.

Blackburn have been poor this season but I would still be cautious of there attacking threat. This season just proves yet again that we do need another defender. We're 1 defender short of the number we had last season and the injury crisis is becoming annoyingly predictable. It's even more annoying when we don't fully prepare for it.
