That Red Card Decision?

It`s always a shame when a side is reduced to ten-men, even more so when it`s clear that the sending off was a little harsh.

Yesterday, against Wigan, Conor Sammon got his marching orders from Phil Dowd for a challenge that, to me, looked fairly innocuous on Michael Carrick.

Although it wasn`t a game changing moment, it will have repercussions for Wigan with Sammon having to serve a ban, unless the card is rescinded.

After the game both managers agreed that it was a harsh decision with Roberto Martinez, as you`d expect, far more vociferous than Sir Alex.

This is what the visiting manager said about the red card,

"It`s a shocking decision. It`s nothing malicious. There is not even a clear contact. He is just fighting for position."

"Berbatov uses the same technique in the box two minutes later and scores and it`s allowed."

A fair point, I`d say.

As for Sir Alex, he remarked about the incident,

"He is a big, aggressive lad who throws his body around a lot But I didn`t think it was intentional."

So how about doing the decent thing and making sure Wigan don`t get punished nay further by his absence in the next three games?

It was a ridiculous decision by the ref. If anything it was a yellow at most and even then that might've been harsh. I'm sure they will be successful if they appeal. Referee and linesman standards have dropped, they weren't particularly good anyway but it seems like they've got worse. Webb's penalty decision yesterday is proof of it.

I haven't seen much highlights, just caught a couple of the goals but I heard there was a question mark over Evans' yellow, some reports suggesting he was lucky it wasn't red. What was your take on it?
