'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Boxing Day Transfer Talk

Flicking through the gossip columns in various news agencies, we find that Manchester United, despite Sir Alex pouring doubt on any January transfer moves, are linked with three players.

The first we stumbled upon was the Spurs midfield schemer Luka Modric One source reports that United may well be preparing to test Tottenham`s resolve with a huge £30 million off this January.

Although we understand Spurs have rejected higher offers for the Croat last summer from Chelsea, we also understand that Modric has yet to put pen-to-paper on a new, more lucrative contract.

Could he be unsettled at Spurs with talk of a move to Old Trafford?

The second we stumbled upon relates to our supposed interest in the Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar If, as the news source suggests, we are interested in signing the striker we may be flogging a dead horse with the news source inferring that he is perfectly happy at Schalke where he has scored 15 times in 16 games.

The third up for discussion is a player we know nothing about. But, a reliable news source infers that United are interested in signing the young centre back Inigo Martinez from Real Sociedad.

No price is mentioned for the twenty-year but, out of the three, I have a hunch this could be the rumour with the most mileage.

Yes brilliant journalism that, we turn down 40 mil so we'll def accept 30 mil

firstly the 30m figure is a real indication of what rubbish this about Modric, he is 40m+ or forget it and certainly nothing will happen in January and you would hope that if Spurs get a CL place next season we can keep him at least another year, as we have kept our part of the bargain of allowing him to play football at the highest level.

The Modric rumour is just like the Huntelaar rumour, constantly popping up but won't ever happen. The only thing that makes the Modric rumour more credible is the fact that he's United quality and will actually improve our team. It's just lazy journalism, we had a dutch poacher in Van Nistelrooy and now the media think we want another one. We had Carrick and Berbatov off of Tottenham now we get link with every good, decent and world class player there. The CB rumour has some credibility in the fact that it reflects our transfer policy. Relatively unknown, plays in a position where we suffer plenty of injuries and lack numbers, he's young and shouldn't cost too much.
