A Champions League Return?

A Champions League Return?

Can you imagine the uproar if we were to be re-admitted to the Champions League and then went on to win it?

Well that`s the situation that could arise if UEFA carry out their threat of expelling Switzerland from UEFA.

The row relating to Sion and their acquisition of players, after having had a transfer embargo imposed upon them, threatens to envelop our Group stage conquerors, Basel.

If the Swiss do not comply with the requirements of UEFA, by January 13th, then they will be expelled form UEFA and Basel will, as a result, forfeit their place in the Champions League last 16.

If that were to be the case then United, so the grapevine is saying, would take their place against Bayern Munich in the knockout stages.

A part of me says bring it on but another part of me keeps whispering that it`s not right and that we went our fairly and squarely and why should Basel be licked out through no fault of their own.

What`s your view?

Is it right or is it all cuckoo?

Can you imagine the smell in your dressing room at the prospect of facing bayern Munich in the next round? No what an embarrasing situation that would be! Go for it is all I can say, getting knocked out by bayern means you earn much less money than a decent run in the Europa, dents your confidence and shows the whole world how poor a team you actually are.

It's a fools hope. All the Swiss FA have to do is impose a transfer ban on Sion by the 14th of Jan, it's not hard nor is it worth them getting into trouble over. If by some miracle we were permitted back into the Champions League then UEFA will get a headache from all the ABU's and it's more likely Bayern will go through by default than us being permitted back in. Shame really I would've fancied our chances v Bayern.

Aside from the fact that it's completely unfair to punish Basel for the actions of another club over which they had absolutely no control!

NO I dont want to go back in the CL. Let Basel have their moment in the sun. We were f***** horrible in the group stages and the players have to learn from this.
