Europa League Draw

Europa League Draw

Over in Nyon, the UEFA big-wigs held the draws for Europe`s two club competitions.

Having been cast aside with regards to the Champions League, we had to be patient when it came to waiting to be put out of our misery and find out who we`d be playing in the Europa League.

The draw proved to be interesting with United being paired with Ajax with the winners of that tie going on to meet the winners of the tie between Locomotiv Moscow and Atletico Bilbao.

Although we remain less than enthusiastic about the competition our star striker, Wayne Rooney, has a different perspective on the competition remarking,

"We`re in it to win it."

"It`s a shame we`re out of the Champions League. That`s what we all want to play in. Now we turn our attention to the Premier League and the Europa League."

"I don`t think the manager`s won the Europa League, so I`m sure he`ll want to."

"There are some good teams but we have to believe, keep working and hopefully we can go on to win it."

Would it be churlish to admit I wouldn`t be bothered if we crashed out next round?

The Europa isn't a priority but whilst we're in it we may as well go for it. Play the reserves/youth and give them a good run out in it. Atleast we drew Ajax, should be a decent watch.

TF7, fair play to you mate, your attitude towards this competition is refreshing considering you're a U*d fan. Most U*d fans I've spoken to about this comp treat it with disdain.

Problem I have with us drawing Porto and you drawing Ajax as our first opponents is that it kind of leaves the competition a bit flat once 2 of those 4 are knocked out. I know UEFA will be delighted with the draw, as it will ensure mazimum interest early doors, but I can't help but feel it would be more to their advantage to have some of the bigger ties in the later rounds! Bit of a case of "after the lord mayor's show" coming up I reckon. Hope united do take this competition seriously, would love to meet them later on! :)
