Rooney in the Mix

That remarkable Wayne Rooney goal, the spectacular overhead kick that knocked the stuffing out of Manchester City, is up for an accolade.

In FIFA`s annual awards (not that they mean that much), Rooney`s strike is in the top three and could be awarded the title of Goal of the Year.

All it has to do is beat the other two nominations.

But that`s where the problem lies, one of the other two nominations if for the goal FIFA`s favourite son, Lionel Messi, scored against Arsenal, whilst the third is a goal from Neymar against Flamengo.

I wonder where the smart money is going!

Neymars goal was very good but the individual brilliance made it what it was more so than the clever finish that scored the goal. Messi's goal was also another very clever finish. Taking into consideration the circumstances the goal was scored under and the quality of the opposition we were playing against then surely Rooney has to win, the goal itself was phenominal as was the pressure and a bit of luck that led up to
