The assembling of a side to play under the Team GB banner at the London Olympics continues to promote controversy.
With Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey prompting outrage form their Welsh supporters for daring to mention they`d like to participate, our very Sir Alex Ferguson also has some forthright view son the matter.
Sir Alex, quite rightly, is proud of his heritage and doesn`t want the Scots to be part of what is happening, remarking to the media,
"Speaking as a Scot, I would say it is a no-no for us in case FIFA seizes the opportunity to try to make the home countries play together as Great Britain - and we wouldn`t want that."
But, quite possibly mellowing in his old age, he did have the odd concession or two, remarking,
"Having said that Stuart Pearce made sense when he pointed out that a player, like Ryan Giggs, who has missed out on major tournaments with Wales, might welcome the opportunity to play in the Olympics; as one of the over-age players."
Careful Sir Alex, some might say you`d have no hesitation in pulling him out injured. But, continuing on a serious front, Sir Alex makes perfect sense when he stipulates,
"One thing I am quite clear about, though, is that I wouldn`t like to see our young players who might be involved in Euro 2012, then selected for the Olympics."
"If they go to the Euro finals they will need a break. I know they are young, fit and eager, but they will need a rest."
Or that familiar term burn-out will no doubt crop up in future conversations.
But what are your thoughts on Team GB?
Good idea, bad idea or simply a ludicrous idea when it comes to three golden-oldies being allowed to participate with all the youngsters?
