'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodgers Praise for Sir Alex

Having achieved promotion, via the play-offs last season, Swansea City have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League.

Although tipped to go straight back down, they`ve stuck to their football principles and have gained numerous admirers.

On their last away trip they held out for a very creditable 0-0 draw at Anfield, but on another day they could well have taken all three points.

This Saturday, United travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on Brendan Rodgers side in a fixture that could prove to be one of the most entertaining of the season.

Rodgers, who learned his trade in the shadow of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and who is quickly developing into a highly respected manager, has spoken about the admiration he has for Sir Alex Ferguson and is quoted in the red-top press this morning as having remarked,

"I want to be in this game a long time and Sir Alex epitomizes that."

"Hunger, desire and motivation - he has all the things you need to be successful over such a long period."

"He`s a one-off. Look at the way people think of him. He has earned all that respect."

"I hope I am still working at 70. I want to be successful for as long as I can. Hopefully my methods will let me do that."

"Sir Alex is an absolute genius in football management."

"He`s a great advert for young managers and has been incredible and an inspiration for us all."

"He`s a role model for every single manager, not just in the Premier League but all over the world."

"Genius comes through many hours of hard work. It Is not just presented to you. He obviously had a long-term target which was to take away Liverpool`s power. That was the ultimate goal for him."

"Liverpool have never won the title since United won it in 1993 and a big part of that is down to Ferguson. Liverpool gave him a target and he`s been relentless in his quest to achieve it. He`s made United the superpower in football."

He certainly has but if Brendan continues to ensure his teams stick to his football principles then he too has a bright future in this game.

You don't hear too many managers talking of emulating Ferguson, many just admit it's a feat in football that won't happen again and how it's a one off. Best of luck to Rodgers and I'm looking forward to playing Swansea and watching their football, though I must admit the Barca-esque footballing approach normally bores me to tears.
