Centre-Back Target?

With Rio Ferdinand, supposedly, on the way out after reading between the lines of the statement released by Sir Alex Ferguson, it hasn`t taken the tabloid press too long to name a replacement.

According to one news agency I stumbled upon, United are linked with a move for the services of the Borrussia Dortmund defender, Neven Subotic.

The only trouble is we`re not alone in the chase for the defender, I can clearly recall the name of Chelsea being mentioned in earlier dispatches relating to a possible transfer for Subotic!

Although with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones showing such promise, do we really need another centre back?

We need some back-up CB's. We're one defender short of what we had last season and were left short at the back again then so there's no doubt in my mind that we another CB. Subotic is fantastic defender and far too good and expensive to act as cover. I personally would prefer us to go for Cahill who will be far cheaper and more happy to play for us and accept a squad role I reckon. He's a fairly young and very reliable CB and the defence would be much stronger with him in it as back-up than Evans or an off-form Ferdinand. We need a back-up LB also I reckon so I'd like to see us chase up Izaguirre, we were supposedly interested in him when there was an uncertainty over Evra. He's a talented LB and far better than SPL standard who will provide plenty of competition to Evra and also give the Da Silvas the time they need to develop their game.

You've no right back, well Rafael I suppose if you can count him. Perhaps if you played either of your centre backs that cost a combined £30 million over the past couple of seasons in their correct position there wouldn't be talk of targeting a centre back. Why you sold O'Shea I'll never figure out, good solid RB and cover for CB.
