'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sven?

Hot of the tabloid press this morning, is the revelation that Untied were lining up Sven Goran Eriksson for the United job.

Apparently, when Sir Alex Ferguson has inferred that he`d be retiring, Sven was the choice made by the board with our old chief executive, Martin Edwards, spilling the beans,

"Alex had made the decision that he wanted to go at the end of the 2001-02 season."

"I was chairman at the time and the boards` decision was to go for Sven."

"We were a long way down the road with those negotiations when Alex changed his mind and said that he wanted to stay, to the delight of everybody."

"As soon as he decided to stay it was a huge relief, because we all felt he still had a lot of mileage in him, as has been proven."

I dread thinking what might have happened if Sir Alex had decided to see his retirement threat through!

after recent failings, it is easy to forget the great club record Sven had before taking the England job

I'm sure this rumour was doing the rounds a few years back when Sven was our manager.
