The Vidic Red Card

The Vidic Red Card

After waiting so long to pull on a United shirt again, after picking up an injury in the opening Premier League fixture, Nemanja Vidic saw his evening cut short.

Our club captain became the first United player for eighteen months to receive a red card in Champions League football.

Although the decision may have been viewed as harsh, with many pundits reckon the challenge was only worthy of a yellow card, it doesn`t look as if Sir Alex Ferguson will launch an appeal with the boss remarking, when asked about the possibility, in his post match interview,

"It was very harsh but I probably won`t appeal. I don`t think you win those fights."

"He raised his foot and in the context of refereeing in Europe that can be a risk. I can understand the referee`s interpretation of the incident. It was certainly a booking."

Sir Alex resigning himself to the fact that chastisement might not work? Whatever next!

Why not appeal against it? There's nothing to lose and even the drips at UEFA must know it was never a red card.
