'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Welbeck Gamble

In an article we published earlier, we stated how Stuart Pearce was looking at the possibility of calling up Danny Welbeck for the U21 fixture against Norway.

With injuries having hit his squad, Pearce felt that the arrival of Welbeck, with Danny having only made a cameo role against Montenegro, would give something extra to his U21 side.

Unfortunately, the request was turned down and it appears that refusal came direct from Sir Alex Ferguson with Stuart Pearce commenting in the red-top press this morning,

"I knew I was taking a gamble asking the question, but, rightly, he said 'no`. I had to ask, though, because we only had one striker out there."

I didn`t know a refusal was an option!
