Fletcher to Lead Scots

Fletcher to Lead Scots

Having shaken off a bout of tonsillitis to join up, and play, with the team in Lichtenstein, Darren Fletcher is set to defy an injury to take his place in the side for the vital fixture against Spain.

Scotland travel to Spain knowing that if they match the result the Czech Republic achieves tonight then they will be in the play-offs for the Euro 2012 finals.

But, it remains a hard task as Spain are on a massive roll that has seen them go on a long unbeaten spell.

Fletcher, who will once again captain the side, is under no illusion as to the task that faces the Scots. Remarking to the media,

"They are the best side in the world so we are under no illusions of what we are up against."

And as for ignoring the ankle knock, Fletcher added,

"While there is still a fighting chance of qualifying, you want to be involved. I have great respect for the manager and all the lads, and as captain I want to be here and play my part."

Very commendable Darren but I feel the Scots best chance of making those play-offs could be to hope for the Czech Republic to slip up, Spain, on their own turf, could well be something akin to mission impossible!
