'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fletcher Pays His Respects

Wasn`t it supposed to be the game that unveiled David De Gea as a lightweight link in the face of an onslaught from a physical Stoke City side?

Didn`t quite turn out that way did it?

Instead, we`re left to reflect on a performance that did a lot to dispel those fears with De Gea, as we`ve already reported over the weekend, producing a performance that established him as the man-of-the-match and also brought glowing praise form Sir Alex Ferguson.

Darren Fletcher, another caught up in the frantic activity that a visit to Stoke City entails, has also joined the throng wishing to add his thoughts, remarking after the game,

"I don`t think you get much more physical games than away to Stoke."

"They bombard you with balls into the box, set-pieces and corners."

"But he dealt with it well and he will take a lot of confidence from that performance, which was a bit of a welcome to English football."

"But it didn`t faze him and he stood up to the challenge."

It was also noticeable that several of our more experienced team members were openly offering their appreciation to De Gea, during the game, for his stirring efforts.

Could Stoke (a) be the pivotal moment in De Gea`s career and the moment he came of age?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The man done his job incredibly well it's a shame we can't say the same for one or two players who were also on the pitch.
