'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Whispers!

Loose lips sink ships and all that!

Scurrilous rumours doing the rounds infer that Michael Owen is content to sit back and merely pocket his mega-salary rather than play on a regular basis.

Naturally, Owen has hit back and has offered the following comments to the national media,

"I`m not content if I`m not playing and I don`t want anybody to think that."

"I get criticized by a lot of people who say I don`t play, but I pick my money up. I`m not proud of that fact. I want to play all the time. I`m pleased and proud with the way I played against Leeds."

"I obviously know my position in the squad. We have got some top strikers and it is no shame on me that we`ve got the likes of Wayne Rooney, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov,

"There are some top players in the team and the squad so it`s a challenge to get on the bench, let alone the team."

All fair points and suffice to say those rumours didn`t come from this site!

Owen will leave us next summer. I will be sad to see him go, he is still a class player, and a deadly finisher.. I dont blame for wanting more minutes, im just happy we have had such a talented player in our squad.

I think he will stay - lets just hope he gets more games for us and then stays on for another few years

Personally think it's 50/50 whether he stays or goes. Whenever he has played his attitude has been brilliant, he looks hungry and he can teach the youngsters a thing or two. An excellent squad player and still a deadly finisher.

He didnt seem sharp at all today - wonder if the Leeds game had caught up with him
