'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Youth is the Word!

Having already filled the starting eleven with young players could Sir Alex be about to pluck another from a top Premier League club?

One Sunday tabloid is running a small piece that infers that Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping very close tabs on Ross Barkley at Everton.

Barkley is a mere seventeen years of age but is already establishing a reputation as somebody to keep an eye on, could he follow Wayne Rooney`s footsteps?

Keep an eye on things come January!

I can't imagine Everton even contemplating selling Barkley, the lad looks like a real talent. Wouldn't mind signing him I just can't see it happening .... unfortunately.

If we are going to raid Everton for youngsters we might as well pick up Rodwell as well whilst we're at it. We could do with a bit more steel in the midfield.

You can have Rodwell, he wouldn't really be missed. But you couldn't afford Barkley.

Take Rodwell, but keep your hands off Barkley. As Mike said, it would is going to take a massive offer to sell Barkley, much more than what we got for Rooney (Imagine 45mil would do it). The way he controls the game already is absolutely amazing, probably been our best player so far this season.

Issue is Everton have money problems, and would probably accept much lower than what the player is in fact worth - a damn shame if he goes for less than 10 mill

Completely different situation to Arteta, Arteta gave us 6yrs and is 30. And if you think Barkley is going for less than 10mil you know absolutely nothing about this situation. Capello has already talked about including Barkley in the national team, and he is only 17. If Rooney went for 30mil, and considering the ridiculous prices going around especially for English players, if Carroll went for 35mil, then I would imagine we would want more than that. If you watch him play, you will see he is worth way more than 10mil. LOL

We've just sold 18m worth of players since January and reduced the wage bill by around 175k per week, we're not in a strong financial position but we're not in a situation of having to sell anyone anymore. There will be no firesale where all our players are available on the cheap. Our debt was only 45m to begin with, we were just having issues with the overdraft of 5m that we couldn't pay and the banks wouldn't loan anymore.

I never said he would go for less than 10 mill - I said if Everotn have issues still it would be a damn shame if he did - maybe reading my post properly would be a good idea :)
You guys DO have money issues, and can I ask WHY people still compare Carroll going for 35 mill to what their player is worth??
Just cos a player went for a stupid amount does not mean other players are worth more or less!
The amount ANYTHING is worth can vary on conditions at the time of sale, and also how much money a person is willing to part with - Lots of players that moved in this transfer window are better than Carroll, and moved for a lot less - Liverpool had a lot of cash to spend - and stupidly bought Carroll for that amount from Newcastle - I think that money would have been better spent on more players, who are 10x better!

Barkley is good but will he ever be as good as Rooney? Genuine question by the way. Rooney cost 30 mil because of the amazing potential he showed throughout the season and his performance against some of the best in Europe at the Euro, you can't be telling me that after 3 games Barkley is worth 30 mil. Like niteworlok said, there's no point saying Carroll because there's countless examples of players better than Carroll going for far less than 35 mil. I would put Barkley in the same bracket as Jones and with him being a midfielder he would come at a bit more of a premium so somewhere between 18-25 mil?

Will he be as good as Rooney? It's hard to tell for certain at 17, but I would say he'll be better. Similar type of player to Gerrard from the gob*****es, it's worth noting that he's starting all our games right now whilst a player we signed for 8m Bilyaletdinov is sat on the bench. His judgement on the ball isn't always the best right now, but that will come with games. It's all still very early in his career though, and even ******** Rodwell looked good at this age (not nearly as good but still looked like he had potential). We'll have to agree to disagree on how much he'd cost, but there aren't many 17 year olds starting every game in the PL, and putting in man of the match performances whilst they do so.

Interesting, TFN7 or niteworlok, have you even seen him play this season? I mean actually sat down and watched an Everton match, especially the QPR game? If you have, it would be hard to find a 17r old that can put in that kind of performance (ON HIS DEBUT as well) in the premier league. Basically, he has shown up established players and who are rated as top players amongst the premier league such as Baines, Arteta and Fellaini and he is only 17. In terms of valuation, what do you think Wilshere would be worth if he was sold? I think that would be similar to Barkley, maybe a bit more for Barkley considering he is 2yrs younger.

Let's put it in these terms: Jack Wilshere is the best young midfield talent in the Premier League, being only nineteen. But Ross Barkley looks better at seventeen than Wilshere did, albeit Wilshere was less exposed at that point. Still, that sort of ability is telling. This kid could reach the same level Rooney reached. Problem is, it's inevitable that he won't be reaching them with us. And you lot are most likely where he will end up.
