'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Could You Sum It Up Better?

When somebody sits back and takes a long hard look as to why the England team of recent years failed to win a major tournament, they might come to the odd conclusion or two.

Labelled as the Golden Generation, it`s now patently obvious that if England are to succeed on the international stage, it`s likely to be the next generation of players that take us to that level.

But when those conclusions are drawn, I doubt very much as to whether any will match that of Gary Neville, one of the aforementioned golden generation.

Neville, now retired and developing into a respected television pundit on Sky Sports, had this to say about the failure,

"I loved playing for my country. But it`s like taking a woman out 85 times and at the end of it she`s still not your girlfriend."

"It`s waste of time, that. You need a result!"

Absolutely superb!

Sums it up nicely. Unless you're going to win something it's all a bit pointless.

Not pointless to everyone though, like Neville said before some of the players can use England as an opportunity to further their career and move on to bigger and better things.

I like Neville, great performer for the team, and always a witty intelligent comment..
