Sneijder Was Close!

I guess it would have been the icing on the cake if United were able to pull off the deadline day signing of the Inter midfielder, Wesley Sneijder. But how close were we to actually signing the Dutchman during the summer transfer window?

From remarks made by the player, it would appear that we were close to pulling off a sensational transfer but that another transfer kyboshed our chances, or as Wesley puts it,

"I felt that it was close, and yes, I thought I was going."

"We had several talks, the situation was such that Inter had to sell a player, Samuel Eto`o or me, and there was interest."

"It`s not so much a financial issue."

"My view was that I was simply feeling very good at Inter."

"I love the club but also the Italian culture and the people. It fits me."

Not many words but words that kind of turn the intent of the passage on its head as they head towards a conclusion.

Next summer perhaps or has the moment gone?

Maybe when his contract expires and his a free agent whereby he will join to play the role Scholes played for us in his twilight years ... assuming Fergie is still the manager. At the moment and in the not too distant future there will be too much money involved in the deal for my liking. The transfer fee will be ridiculous, the wages will be ridiculous, the signing on fee and the agent fee will also most probably be ridiculous. There's far better options available and whilst you wouldn't catch me moaning if we did sign him, I'd prefer it if we went for a younger prospect.

Does this not seem like he is just desperate to leave Inter? I am just getting sick and tired of hearing about him "I was so close" etc. etc. If he wanted, he would be at United. His weekly fees would make him to expensive for 19 of the 20 premier league clubs. We all know what club likes to throw ridiculous amount of money on weekly contracts.

Sneijder is now saying that he chose not to go to Man U because Mourinho called him and told him to stay at Inter. Yeah right, that wasn't the story he told us in this article. Suppose he needs to make peace with the Inter fans.
