Rio on the Decline?

It`s an interesting question!

Although fit yesterday, Sir Alex Ferguson chose to stick with the central defensive partnership of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones, a partnership that had served him well in the first home game of the season against Tottenham.

Last night, with Fabio Capello announcing his squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier, against Bulgaria, Ferdinand was noticeable through his absence from the squad.

Now the tabloid hacks are saying that Fabio didn`t select Rio because he didn`t think he was fully fit.

Now that may be so, but with Fabio enthusing about the abilities of Phil Jones, are there doubts creeping into Fabio`s thoughts about selecting Rio again.

Could it be a case of going from England captain to England outcast in less than nine months?

Have the plethora of injuries Rio`s suffered caught up with him?

We`d be interested in your thoughts!

Ferdinand isn't quite the defender he use to be though still a very good one. Despite the drop in ability which I think is due to a combination of age and injuries I don't think he's as bad as people want you to believe. He's still one of Englands best defenders and when fit and playing again I reckon he will be called up again into the England squad. I'm of the opinion that Smalling and Jones selection is more to do with the fact that they're better than Ferdinand than Ferdinand being past it and all that rubbish.

He has just been out with injuri, not being fully fit, or SAF didnt want to gamble with his health.. He is injury-phrone, but still one of the best defenders, he is not past it at all, next game he will start..
