Champions League Draw Reaction

With the draw for the group stages now done and dusted, the consensus of opinion is that Manchester United haven`t done too badly.

Off course a professional approach will have to be adopted but, on paper, we should reach the knockout stages quite comfortably.

Discussing the draw, which took place in Monaco ahead of the European Super Cup clash between Barcelona and Porto tonight, Sir Alex Ferguson had this to say,

"It`s an interesting draw with no real travel difficulties. We`r elooking forward to the games."

"Obviously we`ve played against Benfica in the past - and they are always great games."

"Basel are a Swiss team who are doing really well. Swiss teams tend to bring lots of young players through their system which is great. We played them before, in the 2002-2003 group stage."

"We don`t really know much about Otelul Galati but that`s the beauty of the Champions League. You get fresh teams to play against."

"They obviously deserve to be in the competition. It`s great for them."

Other comments were forthcoming from the playing staff with Wayne Rooney commenting to the media,

"I think the draw is a good draw for us. I can`t wait for the Champions League to start again."

And Rio Ferdinand adding,

"It`s a decent draw. Benfica is a tough place to go from past experience - there`s great history between our clubs. Basel and Galati here we come."

Perhaps the most prudent point though, made by Sir Alex, relates to the away trips not being energy drainers, an added bonus we reckon!

The draw has been kind to us, we should be able to play a reserve side and win 4 of the 6 matches which is more than enough to qualify whilst letting the first-teamers focus on the Premier League.

Do you realise how bent your easiest-of-easy draws, as well as the "coincidence" of playing every post Champions League game at home looks to the rest of the world? How ironic that your disgrace of a manager should come out with the old "The FA treat us like sh_it" remarks in light of this eh? Go on, someone try to convince me that it's all just a lucky coincidence.

No, you're right fcb, the FA who have repeatedly charged Fergie for getting out of line and the United players for crossing the line is clearly showing a bias to United. UEFA, that EPL hating group also love United and they and the FA conspired to ensure we win the Champions League and Premier League. Doesn't sound too far-fetched does it? Fergies comments about the FA treating the club like 5hit isn't one I share but to suggest there's some sort of massive conspiracy going on is laughable.

Funny thing is, what broadcasters are going to pay top-dollar to watch you take on Turkish Minnows?
Not many I'll wager. Still, you might as well not even turn up and save the cash on flights, hotels etc.
