'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Potential?

United have started the season on the front foot.

Two decent wins, one at home and one away, see us sitting at the top of the table with our noisy-neighbours Manchester City.

Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have done his sums right. The gaffer has seen several of the old-guard walk away and has plumped for a youthful approach as he attempts to build another legacy.

Although it is way too early to talk about it being a job done, the signs are good and the side, as it gains experience, will get better and better.

One of those youngsters, Chris Smalling, who is already looking like a bargain buy, has spoken about what I`ve just been talking about, remarking,

"There is an excitement in terms of endless potential."

"We have nowhere near reached it and are looking forward to how far we can go. It looks good for the future and I`m excited to be part of it."

But let`s not just take Chris` word for it.

On Monday evening Patrice Evra returned from injury and was the oldest player in the back five and he had this to say about the youthful injection,

"The boss is not afraid to use young players."

"They have such composure. They want to prove to the manager they are ready to play on the team. It`s good for us because we need some energy and they have that."

"I`m not surprised because they played well during the pre-season and they are confident."

"We have lost experienced players like Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville but you can see now that the team is very fresh."

Now what was it Alan Hansen said about youngsters?

Can we prove him wrong a second time?

On the front foot? Conveniently forgetting the West Brom game where you managed a fearsome 1 shot on target aren't you?

Stats will only ever tell you so much fcb. It's as clear as daylight to anyone who actually watched the game that we should've scored another 3 or 4 against Westbrom.

The youngsters have looked better than the more experienced heads at the club so far. When we've replaced Vidic, Ferdinand and Carrick with Cleverley, Jones and Evans we've gone from losing 2-0 to winning 3-2 and drawing 1-1 to wining 2-1. It's a very exciting prospect and to be fair to the youngsters, they're maturing faster than anticipated.

@TFN 'Should have hads' dont count !!! Or else Chelsea would be CL winners too. Recalling Ovrebo and his how many discounted Chelsea penalties ?? Its only what goes over the line that counts hence goal-line technology

Not only goalline technology but Video refs should roll on to the scene too for my liking .. to catch out and stop players diving and other offences

Even then Blue_Mel using the "Its only what goes over the line that counts" philosophy fcb point is still negligible as we still won and therefore we still started on the front foot regardless of stats suggesting otherwise. I'm saying, stats will only ever tell you so much, the stats from Chelsea v Barca 2009 would suggest Barca deserved to go through and it's unbelieve that they only went through on an away goal whereas realistically we know Barca struggled and Chelsea got robbed, in the same manner 1 shot on target tells a completely different story to the fact that we dominated Westbrom and were unlucky to only score more than 2. Also, who's to say if you got to the Champions League final you would've beat us? If it had been Man U v Chelsea in Rome 2009 I would've fancied us to beat you.

Whether you are CIty or Chelsea fan it doenst really matter - the point is at the end of the day we won, we are on maximum points and we get results even if we play *****e.......
You guys werent at your best against WBA - and that could have gone weither way - but like us you ground out a result......
As much as I hate Drogba - to me he will always be better than Torres - still think you should cut your losses and sell the turd....

Still obsessing over my neutrality in an argument? Feck me Blue_Mel get a life! This is VMU, I'm a United fan and therefore i'm clearly going to be bias towards... yes, you guessed it, Man U!! Now, when i'm on VC, discussing a top unrelated to Man U and it's something i'm not for nor against by the process of elimation I must be neutral. You can argue against it until you're blue in the face but it's a fact that when you're neither for nor against something you are neutral. No-one else gave 2 5hits or questioned whether I was being bias in the comment on VitalChelsea other than you, surely that's telling you something? Oh and by the way, just because i'm neutral on one topic it doesn't mean I can't be for or against on the next. Why is that so hard to understand, or are you just being ridiculously stupid in a pathetic attempt to annoy me? niteworlok you couldn't be anymore correct about who's better between Drogba and Torres in my eyes.
