Sneijder Deal Back On?

Yesterday we speculated that United might just open the cheque book once more before the transfer window closed.

Our speculation surrounded the possibility of Cheik Tiote arriving from Newcastle. Today the tabloid press is inferring that a deal for Wesley Sneijder might not be as dead as we called it.

The tabloid reiterates that Inter are willing to accept 35 million for the midfield ace and that now the Dutch ace might be willing, in order to resurrect the deal, be prepared to substantially lower his salary demands from 200,000 a week to a mere 140,000.

But before we get our hopes raised too high, the word coming out of Milan this afternoon is that Inter take a very different view to that of the tabloid with their president vowing Sneijder is not for sale!

With the deadline still two weeks away, we`re still keeping a close eye on this one!

It may be a last day thing, Fergie has played this game many times before, the Sun is reporting that Sneijder is willing to reduce his wage demands to make it all happen

the current situation is just posturing - to waste time between now and the last few days. so that Inter/Sneijder will be more willing to do the deal and to compromise on Sneijders wages. Its nothing more than that. You United fans dont you know SAFs/ United negotiating tactics after 25 yrs? you must be blind! Sneijder will be seen to have done the deal last day of the window with cameras watching a la the Berbatov deal

Blue_Mel SAF signed De Gea, Jones and Young in the beginning of the transferwindow. So Berba was bought in the end, hardly makes a trend. Sneijder wont come, he is 27, and the price / salary being talked about, is just plain stupid.

The trend i am referring to is the star signings of the window..Sneijder -assuming the deal goes through , will be the big signing of this window not just of Uniteds but probably of most European clubs perhaps with the exception of the Aguero deal - thus Fergie will want to draw attention to this signing at the close of the window. It makes PR sense

Fair points Blue_mel, but whilst signing Sneijder late on makes PR sense it doesn't make much sense from a footballing point of view - Most managers like to get new players in early so they can integrate them into the team, rather than joining after the season has started. My money is on taggart sticking with what he's got, with a very slim chance he'll go for someone young and unproven. Hell, if City are even baulking at his price and wage demands, then most other clubs are going to think twice!

Look at Berby, Torres and Shevchenko as a few examples of world class players who never hit the ground running, if anything they hit the ground and fell flat on their face, then whilst they were getting up the media would come in and give 'em a good kick in to ensure they stayed down.
