De Gea Gets Charlton Backing

The discussions over whether David De Gea, on the back of two error strewn games, will hold on to his place in the team over the coming weeks, continues to merit debate.

The latest figure to offer his views on the subject is the legend that is Sir Bobby Charlton

Sir Bobby, giving an interview, gave his views on the subject and also speculated on why De Gea is encountering early problems when he remarked,

"Nobody knows for certain that they are going to play. Alex is a genius in that respect. It`s fantastic the way he does it."

"But I think he (De Gea) will be okay. I`m not worried about him."

"He`s a fantastic shot-stopper, very agile and kicks and throws the ball well."

"The boy obviously has a gift, and Alex has seen this. He`s a great goalkeeper and that won`t change."

"Maybe it`s just a little bit of confidence and he`s not where he wants to be in terms of that."

"It`s a big change for him personally, moving to England, and he`s also got to try and remember all these new players."

"And when you`re at a football club you can`t forget anything. If you do, then you reap the whirlwind, I`m afraid."

"I don`t know how goalkeepers think because I was never one myself. In fact I would have hated to have been a keeper."

"But we`ve had a lot of good goalkeepers at united, and a lot of them have improved once they`ve come to the club."

"David is living in a hotel at the moment; he`s come to a new country."

"He`s Spanish and maybe the goalkeepers get treated a bit differently over here than they do over there."

Anyone care to agree or disagree with the legend that is Sir Bobby?

I agree with Bobby 100%. For someone who's considered to be so shakey I feel incredibly comfortable and at ease knowing he's in goal.

TBH we have Linders and good old Tom - all 3 are good keepers - and all 3 could easily contend for No 1 jersey - but we have to show confidence in David - hes young, and will come very good for us.
