Bradford looking for United windfall

Bradford looking for United windfall

United look as though they will have to cough up some money to Bradford as part of the agreement that brought Tom Cleverley to the club as a kid.

Cleverley joined United as a 10-year-old having previously been part of the youth set-up at Bradford; part of the deal was that 10% of any fees received for him in the future would be paid to them.

This did not 'stipulate' that it had to be a permanent move, so loan moves to Leicester, Watford and Wigan see Bradford believing that they, as Bradford joint-chairman Mark Lawn told the Sun, are entitled to a cash windfall.

A six-figure sum could be the amount concerned: 'we're currently in discussions with United.

'They are a professional and sensible club so I don't see a problem.

'We're saying that this is the contract and we believe we're owed money so we're waiting for them to get back to us.'

Reports on sky sports said 'under FA rules, fees due to other clubs are supposed to be paid within 21 days of a transfer agreement being struck otherwise the club concerned is fined at a rate of one per cent per day for up to three years' and 'the club due the money is also entitled to eight per cent interest above base rate per annum.'

Hence the six-figure fee involved...

6 figures for a lad of Cleverleys talent, great bit of business and I wouldn't begrudge giving them the money.

From the noises coming from Valley Parade it sounds like the Sun is overstating the 'dispute' nature of the conversation. I think someone's had a bright idea that talks about transferral of registration, clocked that loans should be included in that and we've asked the question. Would be wonderful if we could have the £50k that's suggested but if the contract means we're owed more I think what's a drop in your ocean could be a really significant contribution to this season's costs. Great that so many Bradford City youth are going on to bigger and better things. A shame we're not in a position to develop them ourselves so they can reach their potential with us. Would be marvellous to get to see future talent running out on a Saturday instead of leaving when they're still children :)

TBH if we owe Bradford it then we need to pay up sooner rather than later - we can afford it :P
