Don`t Discount It!

Although United, according to some tabloid sources, appear to be still actively pursuing Wesley Sneijder, some sources are also linking us with a move for a more controversial character.

Freed by Newcastle, and on a free transfer, these sources are linking Manchester United with a sudden move for the Joey Barton.

Barton, as you are probably all aware, has led a chequered past and been involved in some unsavory incidents.

But, whilst the move may well seem to be one we`d not normally consider, it should be remembered that Sir Alex Ferguson has worked with some pretty wayward stars in the past.

Players like Roy Keane and Eric Cantona were never angels but Sir Alex got the best out of them.

Barton might not, if a signing were to come off, be a first team regular but his presence in the squad could give us some added depth at a time whereby the squad, of last season, has been quite considerably shorn!

I'd love it if you signed him, just to hear the groans of despair from Stretford lol!

We sign Owen on a free and now every player who's being released we're being linked with. I'm shocked that Newcastle are releasing him to be honest, he was fantastic for them last season. His crosses were great and his passing not so bad either, he tried his best to get morale up with that stupid moustache and was on his best behaviour. Fair enough when he was being a (unt but now he's being a decent I don't see the logic. This year I saw Diaby grab him and throw him down and instead of reacting in a typical Barton way (getting up and knocking him out) he just looked to the ref. Not saying I want him at United, he doesn't provide anything new or anything we need but whoever does get him on a free will be doing well for themselves.... assuming he stays on his best behaviour.

Initially I though no way we want him, he could be trouble, however as you point out Famous, he was brilliant last season for Newcastl and if he is happy being a sub and comes relatively cheap I say why not. However with the transfer of Sneijder pending we dont need him.

I was *****ing myself when he was first linked, but now that he is on a free I'm more receptive to the idea of him signing just to add some steal and grit to our squad, however I would worry his signing might upset the squad morale. Hargreaves left for nothing maybe Barton could be worth a shot at the same price.
