Sneijder Deal Moves Closer?

This web site has been littered with comments expressing a disappointment that despite signing three decent players, Sir Alex Ferguson has yet to bring in a world class midfield operative that everyone seems to be convinced we need.

Well perhaps we should all be a little more patient with the gaffer as the tabloid press are insistent that the summer-log pursuit of Wesley Sneijder is about to pay dividends.

The belief being that a fee has been agreed with Inter Milan and all that remains is to negotiate with Sneijder`s people his salary.

It`s rumoured that his current salary, at Inter, would equate to something like £190,000 a week which doesn`t sit too easily with United`s board. Therefore the inference is that United will sit down and discuss with Sneijder`s people a deal whereby his salary will be boosted by bonuses and a generous signing on fee paid over the length of his contract.

As usual, we`ll sit back and await any further developments before updating our readership.

I'm not fussed whether the player we get is world class I just want someone who provide something different to the midfield. Replacing Scholes is fine but, using Barca as an example, we'd have Xavi, the deep lying playmaker, but no Iniesta, the advanced playmaker. Replacing Scholes is only half the job, we'd still be lacking that advanced playmaker.
