Berbatov Delighted to Stay

Speculation has been rife all summer regarding the future of Dimitar Berbatov.

Speculation probably fuelled by the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson omitted the Bulgarian from the eighteen he selected on that ill-fated May night, at Wembley, against Barcelona in the Champions League Final.

However, despite Berbatov entering the final year of his current United contract, we suspect Sir Alex is reticent to dispose of a player who topped the Premier League scoring charts last season.

And as for the player himself, he`s stipulated, via the power of the media, that he`s in no rush to leave, having remarked on our tour of the USA,

"Manchester United is the top. Smaller clubs might be able to match United with the way they play, with their organization, everything. But Manchester United are at the top. Where can you go from there? Only down! Maybe Barcelona. At the moment, I don`t see anything else. If you go somewhere it is a big step down."

Well we`ll not argue with that.

Furthermore, with Javier Hernandez having just started pre-season, after being on international duty for most of the summer, Dimitar has the perfect opportunity to stake a claim as Rooney`s partner in that opening Premier League fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

And what do they say about possession?

Berby we're delighted to have you assuming you don't go back to your old lazy self and comments like: "There is a saying in Bulgaria that great quality doesn't require much effort." are hardly reassuring. You discovered your best form when you put in a lot of effort and in half a season became the joint golden boot winner. Whether you like to admit or not and whether it suits you or not, hard work gets rewarded. Replicate last seasons form and there's no doubt you'll win over the United fanbase again and, more importantly, a new contract. Seeing as your game has never relied on speed or fitness I don't think you'll have to worry about age catching you up anytime soon.

He put in a decent shift against MLS All Stars and look what happened. More football like that please Berby, you were fantastic.
