'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Subtle Hint?

A possible indication that Manchester United are actively pursuing Wesley Sneijder came when Sir Alex Ferguson appeared at the introductory press conference after United arrived in America.

Once again, Sir Alex pontificated about replacing the recently retired Paul Scholes, at the hear to four midfield, commenting,

"How do you replace someone like Paul Scholes? If you were to bracket the best four midfield players in the world, he`d be up there with Xavi and Andres Iniesta, then take your pick from somebody else."

"He`s certainly, to my mind, one of the top four in the world, so it`s a loss."

"It`s impossible to get another Paul Scholes."

"But if we can get another player on similar lines in terms of passing and vision then, yeah, we would have to do something."

Is that a cryptic message that Sneijder is seen as the heir apparent to the lad from Oldham?

Whilst it's a comforting thought the use of 'if' tells you how unlikely it is. Inter have said Sniejders 'untransferrable', Sneijder said he's happy at Inter and Fergies pretty much indicated he's going to be looking to the academy.

Hope he doesn't look to the Academy, as much as I trust Fergie I think its going to be a massive mistake.
