Coincidence?

One of low-points of last season, undoubtedly, was the saga whereby Wayne Rooney decided Manchester United was not for him and he wanted to leave.

Fortunately that didn`t prove to be the case and Rooney, via some subtle persuasion and a hefty pay-increase, decided to stay.

In the tabloids this morning though, there are some wonderful comments, attributed to the recently retired Paul Scholes whereby he recalls the affair and when asked if there was any truth he`d injured Rooney`s ankle in the very next training session after his revelation, he admitted clattering the striker commenting,

"Coincidence. Could have been anyone."

And as for the whole sorry saga, he added,

"I think he was a little bit disrespectful but he held his hands up afterwards and said sorry. He regretted the statement."

"He apologized to the team in the dressing room. I don`t know if he was badly advised or whatever, but he was sorry."

"He knew it was wrong and in the second half of the season he came good for us."

Personally, I`ll always wonder how the conversation between Rooney and Sir Alex went and also just how frosty the atmosphere was on the training ground at the time!

Basically, Rooney got out of place and was being disrespectful so Scholes put him back in it :P
