Summer Spending Done & Dusted?

Summer Spending Done & Dusted?

Do you remember when Fergie said he was only going to make 3 signings?

I know many of you will shudder at this thought, but I can't help but wonder whether the spending stops at Young, De Gea and Jones or whether there's a couple more signings to go.

As a fan base we've been crying out for stronger midfield or, more specifically, an attacking mid and a defensive mid but has Fergie already addressed this with the signings of Jones and Young?

Phil Jones, whilst being a solid Centre Back, is capable of playing as a Defensive Mid. Also, the fact that we were also chasing after Varane, another young CB, inspires the idea that Fergie was perhaps looking to utilise Jones as a DM rather than a CB.

Young for the past season has been playing as an Attacking Mid for both club and country and could be called upon by Fergie to play there for United. With Valencia and Nani both being arguably better than Young it's looking unlikely that he will get a sniff in on either wing, which in turn makes it more likely that he will be our attacking outlet down the centre.

We seem to be getting our business in the market done as soon as possible with 3 signings being announced within weeks of one another which is a stark contrast to now.

Now all is quite on the transfer front. Calm before the storm perhaps? I hope so. The only evidence suggesting that our transfer dealings aren't over are unconfirmed newspaper reports, our attempt at signing Varane and Gill being spotted in Udinese.

A history of telling fibs when it comes to our transfer activity would also contribute to the notion as well as a lack of natural AM's and DM's. I know it's still early days but with Fergie's 'value for money' tirade and an over inflated market I can't see much, if any, transfer activity.

I don't care if the signings aren't £35+ mil World Class Sneijder's and Modric's, I'm happy, as you most probably know, with massive prospects, just as long as we're reinforcing the weak spots.

Please tell me I'm just being a pessimist and there's exciting transfers to come. Please.

i dnt think fergie is gonna be playing young frm d middle...,,we still got one or two players to buy then i think that is.....
26/06/2011 17:44:00
fergie has always admired young as a winger not a midfield player so i still think his still got some trick up his sleeves concerning d mibfielder his gonna be bringing......and please forget about all dis ***** about prospect so long u r young and good u r gonna be expensive u dnt ...u buy a player based on his ability ok......jst as in d case of neymar he jst 19 and look how much d guy is worth...d market has gone crazy ....

I wont be happy if we do not sign a recognised centre midfielder who can provide that creative spark we have been lacking for 2 seasons now. I'm not going to lie I want Sneijder in our team, he looks like the complete package, Nasri and Modric have their own talents but neither have it all like Sneijder, in fairness they should cost a fair bit less then Sneijder would. Do we even know how much inter want, have we even asked, are there any signs that Sneijder would like to come to Utd(I know what the papers say and they are hardly thrust worthy). I just want us to try, if Inter turn us down or Sneijder does then fine move on, preferably for Costa who could fit in straight away. I'm sick of prospects, Obertan was a prospect, Bebe is a prospect, Gibson at 23 was still a prospect, Carrick at 30 is just crap. Whoever we do sign will have to slot in beside Fletcher, by far our best centre mid at the moment so fergie must surely be targeting an attack minded mid rather then a def one. i still think there is a lot of movement in the market to happen yet, we could sell off 30 million quids worth of talent before the start of the season, who knows what will happen with the likes of Berbatov and Evans plus the sales of O'Shea, Brown and Gibson i would expect that money to be put back into the squad so the money is there, whether we spend it this time is up to Fergie and I feel that match against Barca will of finally opened his eyes to our complete lack of ability in the centre of midfield so surely there will be a lot of movement on our part in the transfer window, whether each of us here gets who we want is another thing, but it could be worse we could sign Charlie Adam for 15 million.

I doubt we will sign a midfielder, I think SAF will trust Ando and Fletch to do the job, and testing Pogba and Cleverly. We will buy a keeper, but not a midfielder..

Whilst I like to think otherwise i've got to agree with nordkap. I would love a Sneijder or Costa but realistically I can't imagine either being too comfortable playing CM in the 4-4-1-1 system we've adopted. They're not going to be able to play the more advanced midfielder role whilst Rooney occupies the CF role, well they might I just can't see it happening. We need Rooney playing behind Hernandez, ruling out pretty much any formation where an AM actually plays as an AM. Whoever we sign must be able to play as an attack minded CM, thus Fergie's signing of Anderson. Whilst he still hasn't fulfilled his potential he's looking better and better and showed towards the end of the season that he can score goals and play a ball like Scholes and not just in the air like a certain Carrick but also along the ground. He just needs a bit of consistency in his game.

I can still see us buying a midfielder. I know Fergie said 3 signings but thats before he knew Jones was up for grabs. I think it was a case of act now or miss out. De Gea will sign and I still see a centre midfielder.

The Daily bull5h1t has said we've apparently put a bid in for Alcantara, a great prospect who has shown great ability. His workrate and teamwork skills are brilliant as are his passing, vision and dribbling. Could be the solution to all our midfield issues, if not now in a few years assuming his development doesn't come to a stand still. I believe he primarily plays as a CM rather than a CAM thus making him a perfect fit for our 4-4-1-1 system. Whilst it's a nice thought I can't imagine him leaving Barcelona nor can I imagine Barca letting him leave. They won't make the same mistake like they did with Fabregas and if we were to sign him I can only imagine it being short-term until Barca come calling with there 'Catalan DNA' b0ll0x even though he's not actually Catalonian.
27/06/2011 00:46:00
Can't see it happening myself, if he did come I'd imagine Barca would try to do a deal similar to the one that brought Marc Crosas to Celtic whereby they can buy him back at a certain price if they want after 2 years I think it was and I couldn't see Fergie doing a deal like that.
27/06/2011 01:07:00
is this DeGea keeper in the same status as that other well known ''world beater'' that saf signed not so many years ago.... you know the one and only Massimo Taibe.... ''A legend in the making'' was the headline when he signed wonder whatever happened to him.... i know he was beaten by a bobble on the pitch... hope DeGea lives up to the expectation of him... we wait and see......
