Do you remember when Fergie said he was only going to make 3 signings?
I know many of you will shudder at this thought, but I can't help but wonder whether the spending stops at Young, De Gea and Jones or whether there's a couple more signings to go.
As a fan base we've been crying out for stronger midfield or, more specifically, an attacking mid and a defensive mid but has Fergie already addressed this with the signings of Jones and Young?
Phil Jones, whilst being a solid Centre Back, is capable of playing as a Defensive Mid. Also, the fact that we were also chasing after Varane, another young CB, inspires the idea that Fergie was perhaps looking to utilise Jones as a DM rather than a CB.
Young for the past season has been playing as an Attacking Mid for both club and country and could be called upon by Fergie to play there for United. With Valencia and Nani both being arguably better than Young it's looking unlikely that he will get a sniff in on either wing, which in turn makes it more likely that he will be our attacking outlet down the centre.
We seem to be getting our business in the market done as soon as possible with 3 signings being announced within weeks of one another which is a stark contrast to now.
Now all is quite on the transfer front. Calm before the storm perhaps? I hope so. The only evidence suggesting that our transfer dealings aren't over are unconfirmed newspaper reports, our attempt at signing Varane and Gill being spotted in Udinese.
A history of telling fibs when it comes to our transfer activity would also contribute to the notion as well as a lack of natural AM's and DM's. I know it's still early days but with Fergie's 'value for money' tirade and an over inflated market I can't see much, if any, transfer activity.
I don't care if the signings aren't £35+ mil World Class Sneijder's and Modric's, I'm happy, as you most probably know, with massive prospects, just as long as we're reinforcing the weak spots.
Please tell me I'm just being a pessimist and there's exciting transfers to come. Please.
