That Sanchez Link

That Sanchez Link

Our name keeps appearing in the race to sign the Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez.

Along with our noisy-neighbours and the Catalan giants of Barcelona, some serious money is being spoken about when it comes to procuring the signature of the Chilean winger.

Having Ashley Young joining us and with Valencia and Nani already on the books it`s hard to see any validity in the rumours.

Even more so when you read that our Champions League Final conquerors are the favourites to land the player having already offered a cool £23 million up front with another £5 million forthcoming, for his signature.

The fact that it is being suggested that Sanchez would prefer a move to Old Trafford doesn`t carry that much influence in this mega-deal methinks.

Think we might be interested, just to stop him joing our rivals. Park is apparently gonna be off, if you believe what you read anyway.

Young hasn't joined U*d(yet).

Thank goodness Barca are getting him. In the same way i'm glad Chelsea are in poll position to get Modric. They're good no doubt, but the fee's being thrown around are ridiculous and there are much better options available. I don't think either provide the midfield with what it really needs. Seeing as we're building for the future Sneijder seems less and less likely everyday (don't think there was much of a chance in the first place). Hamsik or Costa would make me happy.

i find it very ridiculous for u to think hamsik is gonna fit into united i hv watched him a couple of time n i dnt think he can deliver waht we need no doubt his a good player but not a big player.....we need a player who can dictate d play in midfield n modric or sneijder fit that bill n i dnt care what inter milan r saying when d time is right we gonna get sneijder cause i dnt think spurs r willing to let modric go.......

well sanchez has finally agreed to join barca so annoying i really wanted d is guy...hvu noticed d way our transfer 4 players has dropped in d last few days d intensity they started with is not more there i dnt know why..let them get all the players we need before our d pre season tour kicks off.....

The lad knows where the goal is something our midfield has sorely missed and something we "need". He's physical presence and the attacking positions he gets himself in to alone will open up space for playmakers (Rooney), wingers (Valencia/Nani/Young) and strikers (Hernandez/Berby/Welbeck) to work in. Dictating midfielders are hard to find and often cost a bomb. Sneijder is cosy at Inter and Inter are under no obligation to sell, they can provide him with everything he wants. Tottenham may be obliged to sell but even still you will be looking at 30-35 mil for a player who boasts very few assists and goals and has his eyes set on Chelsea (idiot... :P). Rooney can very easily dictate a game so for me it's not something we're desperate need of, we proved we can cope without last season when Scholes wasn't playing and Rooney was off-form. We need someone who can create space and pick out a good throughball and who knows where the net is who won't cost over 20-25 mil. FFP implications come into action next season so there's no point buying a 25-26 year old who will be declining in 5/6 years where we're then back to square 1. Costa is my personal preference.

Also forgot Taarabt. Could be similar to Nasri if he makes it in the Premier League but much cheaper.

well i dnt agree with u if u are thinking of a player who is gonna be there 4 a while then fergie should give clevely a chance we r not talking about arsenal here pls where u cud jst bring any guy without experience...this is manchester united...n i dnt think our midfield was good last season we didnt jst meet a side that had quality in d middle.....when we played barca i think thats was a very good test for our midfield n u saw what happend i think we should get a player who has got enough experiance not jst somebody without a track record..........
20/06/2011 20:46:00
and pls forget all dis ur talk about cheap players they hv d money so let them spnd least none of it is going into ur pocket or is it ???.....d best they can do 4 us is get d players that we need and give us some more trophies...........

henry, fair point about Cleverley and I would love to see him play more but still there's an issue with a lack of competition in that position. You're right we're not Arsenal but I wouldn't mind their midfield which have all stemmed from a young set-up of unproven players similar to Barca's. The concerns about money come from the fact that we are still in debt, we're slowly climbing out but it's pointless destroying all our progress in a single short-term signing who might not even work out. I'd sooner us sign a youngster with massive potential on the cheap and have the years of service and resale value as in an insurance than the possibility of another Veron. To me, Costa ticks all the boxes.
