Praise for De Gea

The European U21 Championships are giving us the opportunity to cast an eye over our new keeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard, coming to United in a mega-bucks deal, from Atletico Madrid, has been playing his club football alongside a former United player, Diego Forlan.

Forlan, who has rebuilt his career after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, has noting but praise for our new recruit, remarking to the BBC,

"David will become a top player because he has a lot of ability."

"But he`s only just had his first full season as Atletico`s number one and is a young guy with little experience."

"There`s no doubt that David will become a very, very good player, because he has the talent."

"He is tall, strong on crosses, a good shot stopper and distributes the ball very well."

"I suppose he is similar to Van der Sar in a lot of ways. Even though he is very young, he gives a lot of confidence to his defenders and has a lot of talent."


But Forlan has one aspect of the proposed move that could prove troublesome for DeGea, living in a foreign land, adding,

"You never know for sure whether a player will adapt to a new country until he gets there."

"David is from a little town outside Madrid and has been at Atletico since he was very young. He doesn`t speak any languages other than Spanish. He is going over with his girlfriend and family though, which will help."


We`re sure he`ll be fine!

GK's are almost a different breed to outfield players and i'm certain he will be fine when it comes to settling in. Hopefully we're looking at not just a United legend but a footballing legend in the making.

I've no doubt he'll be a good goalkeeper. I still think he'll get to 25 and bugger off to barcelona before he is even close to his peak.
