Praise for De Gea

Praise for De Gea

The European U21 Championships are giving us the opportunity to cast an eye over our new keeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard, coming to United in a mega-bucks deal, from Atletico Madrid, has been playing his club football alongside a former United player, Diego Forlan.

Forlan, who has rebuilt his career after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, has noting but praise for our new recruit, remarking to the BBC,

"David will become a top player because he has a lot of ability."

"But he`s only just had his first full season as Atletico`s number one and is a young guy with little experience."

"There`s no doubt that David will become a very, very good player, because he has the talent."

"He is tall, strong on crosses, a good shot stopper and distributes the ball very well."

"I suppose he is similar to Van der Sar in a lot of ways. Even though he is very young, he gives a lot of confidence to his defenders and has a lot of talent."

But Forlan has one aspect of the proposed move that could prove troublesome for DeGea, living in a foreign land, adding,

"You never know for sure whether a player will adapt to a new country until he gets there."

"David is from a little town outside Madrid and has been at Atletico since he was very young. He doesn`t speak any languages other than Spanish. He is going over with his girlfriend and family though, which will help."

We`re sure he`ll be fine!

GK's are almost a different breed to outfield players and i'm certain he will be fine when it comes to settling in. Hopefully we're looking at not just a United legend but a footballing legend in the making.

I've no doubt he'll be a good goalkeeper. I still think he'll get to 25 and bugger off to barcelona before he is even close to his peak.
