Welbeck Snatches a Draw

Switching between the delayed coverage, courtesy of a rain deluge, of the Canadian Grand Prix and the European U21 Championships coverage, in Denmark, I was fortunate enough to catch the dramatic moment.

No, not Jensen Button`s last lap overtaking manoeuvre to snatch victory but the finish by our very own Danny Welbeck to give our U21 side a share of the spoils in their opening fixture against hotly-tipped Spain.

With Spain having taken the lead, in the fourteenth minute, thanks to a highly dubious goal, it was poetic justice that despite being outplayed for long periods of the game, England got that equaliser with just two minutes to go.

Speaking about the result, Welbeck had this to say to the media afterwards,

"We set a platform and now we have to build on it. We`ve a great team spirit."

Now anybody who witnessed the celebrations that greeted the goal wouldn`t dare argue with that assessment would they!

What sort of game did De Gea have? Welbeck should really make a statement and prove he should be played above Berby, Macheda and Owen. I'd hate to see him leave because he was back-up to Owen or didn't get enough game time.

Forgot that game was on the tv, does anyone know how well De Gea did? As for Welbeck surely he cannot be allowed out on loan again, to me he seems a much better option then Michael Owen.
