Playing Away From Home!

Although the margin by which United won the Premier League was quite comfortable in the end, there were still some disappointing aspects to our season, apart form the capitulation to Barcelona, at Wembley, of course.

One disappointment was our away form, form which rewarded us with the lowest number of points we`ve accumulated, on the road, since the Premier League commenced.

Of the 19 games played we won a mere 5 with these 5 coming at grounds we`d normally expect to harvest the maximum from - Stoke, West Bromwich Albion, Blackpool, Wigan and West Ham.

Similarly, of those 19 games, we managed to draw 10 and subsequently registered 4 defeats with 3 of those defeats coming at the hands of our major rivals - Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool

It`s a feature of our season that Patrice Evra has also picked up on with the defender remarking,

"I just don`t understand why we didn`t win more games away from Old Trafford."

"We just didn`t play the same way we did at Old Trafford. It was our home form that won us the league."

"Just imagine if we can come back and start winning away - we could win the league by 15 points. We have to resolve the problem with our away form."

"As I said, I don`t know why it happened this season but next year we will make things change."

It`d certainly make things easier because the way the Premier League turns out It will certainly be very difficult to match our home record of the record breaking 19th title winning season whereby from the 19 fixtures we had 18 wins and 1 draw.

I was expecting another Giggs story.

A lack of strength in the midfield I suspect is one contributing factor, there was a lack of penetration and creativity at times and when the crosses weren't working we had nothing else to turn to. A lack of motivation is another, sometimes the team just looked disinterested as though just turning up was enough. You've got pure luck and fatigue from European midweek games also. There's loads but next season we need to really up our away game.
