Modric Outburst?

All this talk of United signing Luka Modric has got Harry Redknapp all rattled.

It seems that our reported interest, at £20 million, doesn`t quite comply with Harry`s valuation of the Croatian playmaker with Harry rattling off the following tirade relating to our reported interest,

"I heard talk about £20 million for Luka. They`ve got to be dreaming. He`s a fantastic player."

"We`ve been quoted more than that for people who couldn`t lace his boots."

"I wouldn`t put a value on him. I wouldn`t want to sell him."

"We`re looking to build a team at Spurs, not dismantle one, so there are no plans to sell Luka or Gareth. It would be a massive backward step for the club."

How does Sandra cope with him?

How much would you rate Luka at then out of interest?

I hadn't noticed that Harry was rattled - merely restating the status quo. It's crap articles on sites like this that clog up the net.

I'd accept £30m & Rooney or £70m, otherwise, you will never see the little magician wearing a red shirt, he's too classy.

yeh you sell ronaldo for £80m yet expect modric for £20m, dream on your debt ridden club can't afford him simple as that, if ronaldo is worth £80m then modric is at least £60m, he is pure class in the heart of our midfield and he is staying there.

ok i wont get abusive or anything ill just stat the facst as i personally see it. Why do the press seem to put such a low price tag on him and assume we will sell a player who has improved at Spurs for £20million when we have bought him for £16.5?do they not remember the fact we sold Berbatov for £30mil when we bought him for £10mil.Why would we sell our current best player for £20million less than Bales "apparent" price tag.If United want a replacement for Scholes then imo they need alot more than £20million (double atleast) to buy Spurs best player simples. However i wouldnt sell to a team in the same league as us when it comes to players like Bale, VDV, Modders etc

If Ronaldo's worth 80 mil Modric is worth 60 mil?! pmsl! Modric is better than, what was at the time, the best CAM in the world in the form of Kaka then? Here's a question, how many goals and assists has Modric got? Not much for the supposed attractive football you lot play and how great he is. I understand you want the most from your players but ultimately your blinkered, deluded and stupid if you reckon you will get anything over 35 mil. Keep dreaming spuds. As for Modric i'm fed up with the non-existant link. Fergie has never made a bid or declared any interest in Modric at all.

Fergie doesnt have too these days. Sneaky red nose ******** uses the red tops to do his work for him. This is a nonsense story anyway.

Let's just see what happens. Gone are the days where the team would collapse with the loss of one player. I spent half the season wondering why Niko couldn't get a game in Modric's place.

20m is a joke- modders was real class this season & I feel he will get better. He is a tour do force for the team & if the other members of thfc were up to his energy, intelligence, etc we would be challenging ManU instead of fightin them off for one of our star players. Hands off: Bale; VDV, Modric, Sandro.

I think he had a boot up his arse prior to Stoke because his casual running had wasted a great number of counter-attack opportunities for a series of games.

Not that I think this will be another case of their mis-management of Berbatov. You'll never get the best out of an artist by treating him like a workhorse... which is why he is half the player he was at Spurs.

Some of the spuds fans on here are guilty of some extreme optimism I must say. I don't think Modric will leave Tottingham this summer (unless of course Redknapp goes), but when he does leave I think £30-35m is probably a fair price for him. He's a very good player who might go on to become world class at a decent team (no offence spuds, but while you have a number of very good players, you still don't have a decent enough 1st 11), but for the moment your are kidding yourselves to think he's worth £50m.

FCB - Worth? Value is totally artificial, becasue United need a midfield technician and spurs don't want or need to sell, there's a premium to force the sale. That's just common sense. When we are trying to create a team there's no benefit in selling a player, who our team is built around, at the 'market rate'...hence £40-50m. Not that difficult is it?

Apparentlly Fabregas is a £50m player, but I'd not swap Modders for him in a month of Sundays. I can believe united are interested (I certainly would be were I in Fergie's place), but I can't see how figures of £20m or even £30m would entice Spurs - a very financially healthy club in their own right - to sell their best player way below what he's worth while he still has 4/5 years to run on his contract and they're looking to build a team to return to the Champions League. And remember, Modric did not join the club to play in the Champions League, he is one of the player who made it possible. He is probably also the most consistent performing midfielder in the league this season.

I hear what you're saying phartman, and it's a valid point - but your chairman is known as a bit of a penny-pincher, and he may decide to cash in while the going is good, say for £30-35million. Don't get me wrong, I think Modric is an outstanding player, and I'm sure you will value him at £50m or more, and will ultimately keep him due to most clubs being unwilling to pay that much.

Lets be honest Modric is worth more then 20 million in today's market, so that figure being thrown about is complete crap, and if we did offer say 30, 35 million why the ***** would we not go for Sneijder. Besides that useless ***** Carrick cost 18 million I think so for 2 million more we can get Modric who makes this ***** up, next week Spurs will accept 20 plus Berba and we will all look like stupid ****s.

Well, jordan Henderson's just moved for 20 million pounds. Anyone think he's on the same level as Luka? 40 million+ seems like an entirely reasonable figure, especially considering the fact that Levy's publicly expressed his displeasure at United's less than ethical antics re Berbatov, the fact that Modric is on a contract that runs into 2016 and the fact that if we do sell, Levy's going to make damn well sure that it's to anyone but United. As for us being merely a decent team, fcb, it's hard to compete when opposing clubs can blow you out of the water with massively inflated transfer fees and stupendous wages. In the modern market, sticking to our solid but small and uncompetitive 80k a week wage budget for our top players means we have little chance of attracting the really big boys. But we're getting there. Redknapp's kerfuffle about 'three world-class players' being pursued is heartening, as is the interest shown by the likes of Falcao and Leandro in moving to good old N17. So, we're getting there. Not necessarily in obscenely expensive rocket-boots emblazoned with pound signs and the face of a grinning Arab dictator-sheikh(no offense), but we're getting there.

FCB - Levy's only sold key players if they're s**te (who could argue £20.3m for Keane is bad business?) or if they've had 2 years or less on their contract. We've also made, percentage wise, a lot of money on them, almost 3x what we paid for both Keane and Berbatov is what we received. Who the hell knows what Modric is "worth" as that term doesn't mean anything, but I think it's disrespectful of the press to think that Spurs, who are fairly rich, not desperate for money, would accept a £20m offer for our best player, despite how much he's improved since his arrival, despite initially spending £16m on him, and despite him being tied down until he's 30. I'm pretty sure that if the press harped on about Rooney going to Real Madrid for £30m, you'd see a similar reaction from Fergie.

United cant afford to pay the money we would want for Modric,Nasri is a better bet 1 year left on his contract so possible 25/30million if Henderson is worth 20m?? COYS
