The Jones Speculation!

Spend, spend and spend!

Having secured a record-breaking 19th top flight title but having realized that, on the European stage, we`re adrift of the Barcelona side that beat us in the Champions League Final, Sir Alex Ferguson is aware that work needs to be done to improve the squad to mount another assault on the greatest club prize in European football.

There`s also the added problem of ensuring that the squad, which has seen a couple of ageing players retire this season, doesn`t become unbalanced age-wise.

To this end I hope that our reported interest in signing the Blackburn Rovers youngster, Phil Jones, is genuine.

At nineteen years of age, Jones has made an impressive introduction to Premier League football and his versatility could well be an important factor as his career develops and unfolds.

Able to play at centre-back and also in midfield, I`m hoping that Sir Alex views Jones as the sort of player that every trophy winning side appears to have, a jack of all trades but master of one.

The fact that a fee of £16 million is being quoted I also find encouraging. Whilst, on the surface, it may seem a lot of money for a teenager, we shouldn`t forget it could well prove to be a bargain if his services were secured and he established himself as a United regular for years to come.

But even more encouraging is the news that broke on the BBC this afternoon that Jones is currently having a medical at United.

So I say go get him Sir Alex!

I can't understand this move, our defence has been pretty rock solid, Evans and Smalling are ready to step up as is, maybe Fergie is considering Jones' ability to play as a defensive midfielder.
Kanchelskis
Now get ******** Sneijder or Douglas Costa.

With whats becoming our regular midseason defensive injury crisis, the imminent departure of Brown, Evans development hitting a standstill and Ferdinands recurring injury problems this move is a good one. Jones at the age of 19 already possesses a great amount of ability as well as bundles of potential. He's very mature and level headed and has had a good first season, especially for someone so young. At 16 mil we could be looking at 16 years of service averaging out at about 1 mil a year which will look even less significant if he fulfills his potential. I'm all for it.

£16 million on a defender that's hardly cut his teeth??!!! Ruining football and distorting the market.
Bluedub
and you'd know all about that would you not!
Red Boy
Didn't know they did irony over at eastlands Bluedub, how much are you lot offering for Cahill again?
Kanchelskis
Good prospect, bit over-priced, but i guess that's the "English premium" You'd better hope that turdinand's back holds out for at least another season or two while this guy develops though! And for the record it sounds as though we've pulled out of the race for Cahill because Notlob want too much for him (£16m for a defender that's hardly cut his teeth!)

Too much?! I never knew that phrase existed in money bags City vocabulary? You're not getting cheap on us now are you?
TheFamousNo7
Well, you lot keep accusing us of immitating you all the time.
