Owen Gets New Deal!

It was something we speculated on yesterday!

Having taken a place on the bench against Barcelona, we wondered if United were going to surprise us all and give Michael Owen another contract.

Well it appears our thoughts were justified with it being announced today that Owen has indeed signed a new contract and will be staying at Old Trafford for another year.

Michael, as you`d expect, is delighted about the contract and has remarked on his Twitter site,

"Delighted to be staying for another year."

Sir Alex, Ferguson, obviously instrumental in the offer being made, had this to say to the media about the deal,

"Michael has proved to be a top footballer."

"It is unfortunate that he did not get more opportunities but the form of Hernandez put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable."

"I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season."

Good news for Michael but we suspect another nail in the coffin of Dimitar Berbatov`s United career!

FFS! Why? With Welbeck and Macheda coming back will he be anything more than back-up? Is there anypoint having someone clog up the wage bill? I really hope players with potential, like Welbeck and Macheda, aren't forced to leave to get first team football because they're 2nd favourite to a player who adds nothing to the strike force that Hernandez doesn't already provide par experience. I hope also that Berby doesn't leave because of Owen staying. Berby deserves atleast a 2 year extension just to future proof resale value at the least.

I have no respect for Owen, he's just happy to warm the bench, collect his wage and medals. He seem to have no desire to play for England or regularly at all

Glazernomics writ large. I guess all the cash is going on the midfield, lord knows your need it.
