Owen Staying?

It would have taken a brave man to predict that Michael Owen would have been preferred on the bench to our Golden Boot winner on Saturday evening.

Sir Alex, after the game, felt that Owen had more of a chance of nicking a goal than Dimitar Berbatov, something we`re not arguing with.

But, on the back of that decision, we now have to ask whether we`ve turned full circle and that there`s the possibility that it could be Owen who stays at Old Trafford this summer and not Berbatov.

It had been widely suspected that being out of contract Owen would be leaving but now we`re not so sure, even more so when Owen openly courts a new deal, remarking,

"It would be great to stay."

"I`ve loved every minute of it. We have great players, great staff, a great manager and great fans, so hopefully I can continue."

"It`s been a great season. I don`t think the weekend should detract from what a great season it`s been."

"To win the title, get to the Champions League final and the semi-finals of the FA Cup is a fabulous achievement

Could there be a surprise around the corner?

Hopefully not! Owen staying will prevent the talented young strikers like Macheda and Welbeck (though I suspect even they're too good of competition for him to even get a game) from developing then, no doubt, in 6 years time we will be wondering how we let such great players get away, very similar to Forlan and Rossi.

Why have we given him another year? He best not hinder or force out Macheda or Welbeck.

wtf why?
